What it's all about.

We're getting married, and you keep saying "Where are you registered?" Well, we aren't and we're not planning to. For one thing, we're not inviting you for the presents. For another, we're grown-ups. We've got a household together. We've got a toaster. We love toast, but we don't need another. Nor do we need a toast rack. (Nobody needs a toast rack.) And for another thing, we don't really want our wedding to be a bonanza day for some John Lewis, Debenham's or Macy's. We'd much rather help support charities, small businesses, craftspeople--or get some cool homemade stuff from you to tickle our fancies (woo-hoo!). We also have jobs and chores for the day, which would be lovely gifts to give us (either by volunteering yourself to do them, or possibly better, helping to hire someone to do them).

So, over the next few months, leading up to 6 July, we'll keep you posted about ways that you could share our big day--and big life.

To use this as a registry, if you do choose to get something that we mention here, then respond by leaving a comment. You can leave the comment as 'anonymous' so we won't know that it's YOU who's called dibs on that particular idea. Or you can leave your name--up to you. You can also leave comments with more ideas for us to consider (or news on where to find a good bargain on something, etc.).

We'll also fill you in on details about the days (for there are two--6 July in Brighton and 18 August in Newark, NY) as they become available.

6 July 2007 - Humanist ceremony at Duke of York Cinema, Brighton, England, at (we think) 2.30 p.m. followed by a big party (details tba)

18 August 2007 - Another big party on American soil - in the evening at the Erie Falcon Country Club in Newark, NY
