Brighton--what's happening on the 6th

As it says on the invitation, the wedding is at 2.30 and the reception at 6.30. This does not mean that we're making you sit through four hours of vows! Instead, this is our plan for the day:

2.00 Open for business--feel free to come in to the Duke of York's cinema
2.30 Wedding!
after it ends, some pictures at the cinema, then a walk either down the road to Preston Park or if it's raining (please, no!) across the street to Circus Circus pub, where we'll have toasts and treats
6.30 Reception at BHASVIC, which will involve

• drinks and canapes
• dinner (buffet service) from around 7:45
• cabaret acts, toasts, etc.
• cake!
• dancing

If instead of joining us in the park/pub, you'd like to see the sights of Brighton, enjoy! (And wear appropriate footwear!) But now you know when dinnertime is, so you can make an informed decision about when to rejoin us.

A couple of other points:

childcare: As far as we know, most people are bringing their children with them or have arranged other childcare. We know of only one family who is taking us up on our offer of childcare, but if we haven't discussed it with you, and you need some, let us know!

parking: Brighton is tough for parking. There is some (still free, last we checked!) parking around Preston Park that would be suitable for the DoY part of the day. Otherwise, do keep an eye out for the restrictions and the meters. If you need to park for more than a couple of hours in the daytime, let us know and we may be able to find another solution. There is plenty of free, on-site parking for the reception at BHASVIC.

public transport: Keep in mind that the last train to London from Brighton on a Friday night is at 23:02! Now, we turn into pumpkins before midnight, so you won't miss more than an hour of reception if you are taking the train, but do remember to plan for it.

getting from A to B: The distance between cinema/park-pub/reception is walkable (but up hill), but you may not be in walking shoes or feeling so fit. The wedding party is planning to take a cab from the park/pub to the reception (being the virtuously car-less people that we are!), and you'd be welcome to not walk too. We'll see who else needs a cab when we book ours.
